Soothing Sounds for Babies

Have you ever searched out soothing sounds for babies, at 2am, when your two month old wakes up in in a screeching cry of being uncomfortable.  You’ve tried everything; white noise, jungle sounds and rainwater. They did not work and you question your ability to calm or sooth your child and feel helpless. This feeling can mentally exhaust any new or seasoned parent.  As you soul search to find the touch that instantly turns your achy baby into a puddle of loving cuddles, you too will find that one thing.  That one thing that instantly makes them melt in your arms and ease into a deep peaceful sleep.  That thing for us was music.  Not just any type of music but soothing Caribbean and island sounds.  We are not talking ocean breezes or the sound of palm trees blowing in the wind.  The tandem calypso and guitar (or ukulele) sounds mixed together and overlaid by a deep calming voice helped those hard nights.

We would do anything for our family and if that means us belching out a few deep off key verses to ease our son’s pain, we would do it; and we did! Now, my husband and I are no Bob Marley, but with the help of “Three little birds” we found that thing.  Our son loves this as well as “Somewhere over the Rainbow” played by Israel “IZ” Kamakawiwo’ole.  We will always be thankful that we found it and our wish is that the bond we’ve developed over and over with our son can continue as we grow together as a family. Singing did it for us, maybe it will be humming or white noise for you.  Whatever the trick, stay calm and Mama on!
